Rattled by the sharp rebuttal by Lavasa Corporation to its showcause notice, the ministry of environment and forests has referred the case to attorney general Ghulam Vahanvati.

On record, the ministry however, maintained it was correct in sending the notice to the company on Friday to stop work at its hill city township project near Pune, citing environment violations.

Lavasa Corporation, an arm of Hindustan Construction Corporation (HCC) engaged in the development of a hill township in Maharashtra, has accused Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh of malafide intent, claiming that the ministry issued a showcause notice in haste and under pressure from activists to stall its initial public offering (IPO).
