The Comptroller and Auditor General of India has said in an audit report on the Food Corporation of India (FCI) that more than 4.72 lakh tonnes of wheat valued at Rs700.30 crore got damaged in Punjab till March 2016 due to delay in implementation of the private entrepreneur scheme which was expected to increase the storage capacity of foodgrains

Government announces every year the Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for twenty two (22) major agricultural crops and Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for Sugarcane on the recommendation of the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices (CACP), views of State Governments, Central Ministries/Departments and other relevant factors. In addition, MSP for Toria and De-Husked coconut is fixed by the Department on the basis of MSPs of Rapeseed/Mustard and Copra respectively.

Question raised in Rajya Sabha on MSP for Cotton, Oilseeds and Pulses, 28/07/2017. The production of pulses, cotton and oilseeds for the years 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 is at Annexure I. Government has increased the Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) of all kharif crops including pulses, cotton & oilseeds for 2017-18 season on the basis of the recommendations of Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), views of State Governments, Central Ministries/Departments and other relevant factors.

Paying farmers for ecosystem services that they provide could be a novel way to achieve multiple goals of doubling the farm incomes, reduce rural–urban migration, reduce pressure on urban infrastructure, and at the same time, incentivise sustainable agrarian practices in India.
