NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the national policy on bio-fuels and its implementation. It also gave its nod for setting up of a National Bio-fuel Coordination Committee and a Bio-fuel Steering Committee. The new policy endeavours to facilitate and bring about optimal development and utilisation of indigenous biomass feed stocks for production of bio-fuels.

The national biofuel policy, aimed at facilitating development of indigenous biomass feedstock for production of biofuels, has been cleared by the Cabinet. The draft of the policy was prepared by the ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE), the coordinating ministry for biofuel development, last year.

The National Solar Mission is set to go local, with Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta likely to hold a meeting with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to bring the Mission to Delhi.

Mumbai: India will offer Rs 380 crore ($81 million) in incentives to wind power projects that feed into the national grid, the government said on Thursday, a move analysts believe will attract large companies.

NEW DELHI: The Central Government on Thursday said it would give incentives worth Rs.380 crore to promote wind power generation. The government has launched a special programme to generate more wind power and attract investments, domestically as well as globally, to give boost to cleaner and renewable energy sector, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah said here.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has announced an incentive of 50 paise per unit of wind power fed by independent power producers into the grid.
