To curb the growing air pollution in Delhi, Supreme Court on Dec 16, 2015 banned registration of diesel cars with engine capacity over 2000 cc engine till March 31, 2016. The apex court also said that all commercial vehicles, including trucks, which are not Delhi-bound, will not be allowed to enter the city through entry points NH-8 and NH-1.

The city of Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula being excluded, generates 370 metric tons of municipal solid waste. There is a plant of waste to energy at Chandigarh which has a capacity of treating 270 metric tons of waste.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Dr. Irfan Ahmad & Ors. Vs. Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora & Ors. dated 02/12/2015 regarding municipal solid waste collection, segregation and disposal in the State of Jammu and Kashmir particularly with regard to plant at Srinagar.

The purpose of the study was to assess the impact of plastic waste disposal on soil and ground water quality of Lucknow dumpsite. The following two dumpsite locations of Lucknow city: a) Ghaila, Hardoi Road and b) Dudauli, Sitapur Road have been under taken for the sampling and study.

In India, urbanization and rapid population growth have led to degradation of environment, by increased rate of exploitation of natural resources and generation of municipal solid wastes (MSW). Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) disposal is a big problem for most of the towns in developing countries. In India dumping of MSW on low laying area is the common practice in most of the towns. The dumping of waste in uncontrolled manner creates many kinds of problems for the surrounding environment.

Question raised in Rajya Sabha on Making Delhi pollution-free, 30/11/2015. Delhi faces problems of environmental pollution. Ambient air quality is affected due to vehicular and industrial pollution, construction related activities, road dust etc.
