Kohima: Nagaland is fast advancing with the New Renewable Energy and introduced a 50 Kilo Watt (KW) of energy capacity Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Power Plant the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre (NBRC) in Dimapur, which acquired as an answer to the frequent power shortages that hinders the smooth operation of the Centre.

According to official sources here on Friday, MLA and Adviser to Nagaland Bamboo Develop-ment Agency L Temjen Jamir, formally unveiled the 50 KW capacity power plants on Thursday at the NBRC and the 200 Solar Panels installed at the NBRC with a capacity to generate 150-175 units of energy everyday and would be able to provide full-capacity power backup for three hours flat.

DIMAPUR: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has said that a State like Nagaland which is rich in natural grown bamboo needs a policy or programme suitable for growth of bamboo industry to boost the State’s economy.

Addressing a day-long programme to commemorate World Bamboo Day here at Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre (NBRC), the Chief Minister said that the green gold (bamboo), if exploited judiciously through application of modern scientific methods can help to sustain the State’s economy and transform Naga society from a consuming society to a producing one.

SHILLONG, Sept 11 – The Centre is planning to double the fish production in North-eastern region and aims at increasing its per capita availability to 15 kg by 2020.

SHILLONG: There is a decrease in the forest cover in the State as per an official report. The decline is a cause of concern considering the ecological impact it could have in the area.

While the forest cover in the State was 77.23 per cent as per the report in 2009, the percentage stands at 77.02 in 2011 showing a decline of 0.23 per cent. Rampant felling of trees in West Khasi Hills coupled with encroachment of forest areas by people in parts of Garo Hills have resulted in the loss of forest cover. There are also reports of deforestation in Garo Hills.
