KAARAPIDAGAI: A public hearing on the proposed Thirukuvalai Thermal Power Station was abruptly called off amid public opposition on Friday.

The project envisages the setting up of a 1820 MW coal-based thermal power plant and a 150 MW thermal power station by the Tridem Group at Kaarapidagai and Vizhundhumaavadi at Keevazhur block in Nagapattinam.

NAGAPATTINAM: Of the total planned cultivable area of 1,10,300 hectare for Samba cultivation, about 63,634 hectare has been brought under Samba transplantation and 14,953 ha under direct sowing. Therefore, about 78,587 hectare have fallen under Samba crop. Additionally, about 25,647 ha have been brought under Thaladi crop cultivation.

District Human Development Reports also shows slight improvement in life expectancy
THE State Planning Commission on Wednesday released the District Human Development Reports (DHDRs), which show a marginal improvement in life expectancy and infant mortality rates. The study was conducted in five districts: Thiruvannamalai, Sivaganga, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Dindigul.

People express strong opposition to the project at Maruthampallam

NAGAPATTINAM: A public hearing on a proposed 2x500 MW coal-based thermal power plant at Maruthampallam village in Sirkazhi taluk was postponed amid opposition to the project from the public gathered there on Tuesday evening.

NAGAPATTINAM: Voluntary organisations should play a crucial role in moulding mindsets towards sanitation and solid waste management, said Collector C. Munianathan at the Triple Ecosan Toilet festival at Kameshwaram village in Nagapattinam.
