Dr Muhammad Rafiq Program Specialist, Unicef has said that Pakistan was still on the top of the list of polio endemic countries and there was need of collective efforts and political commitment to halt circulation of poliovirus in the society. He was addressing inaugural ceremony of March 2009 anti-polio round in Peshawar.

Health officials are in a fix with the detection of two suspected polio cases at Barabanki within a span of a week. One of the cases has been confirmed as P-I strain of polio virus while the lab report of the other is still awaited. It has raised the tally of polio cases to 15 in 2009 with all of them being reported from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

MUMBAI: Over nine lakh children below five years of age were administered polio drops in the city on Sunday. This was 69.1% of the total target in Mumbai, a drop from the last polio drive when 72% of the city's children were covered.

The best coverage was reported from Parel-Lalbaug, which saw nearly 82% of children covered, while the lowest turnout was in the Kandivli area.

Mumbai: As many as 9,40,011 children were administered polio drops in the Pulse Polio Immunization Programme by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday. The civic body targeted a total of 13,13,370 children in the city on the National Immunization Day (NID).

SALEM: Over 5 lakh children aged below five years in Salem and Namakkal districts were administered polio drops in the second round of the pulse polio immunisation campaign held on Sunday.

Awareness programmes were organised to dispel the misconceptions about the administration of polio drops and encourage people to immunise their children against polio.

RAMPURHAT, Feb. 1: The Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme (PPIP) has come to a halt in the villages of Ambha and Kushmore, in Birbhum's Rampurhat II and Muraroi II block areas respectively. The villagers have boycotted the programme in order to prompt developments ~ Ambha is demanding immediate electrification, while Kushmore is pushing for the construction of roads.

More than two lakh children were administered Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) in the pulse polio campaign on Sunday.

The campaign was inaugurated by Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Pradeep Shukla at Bal Mahila Chikitsalaya in Indira Nagar by administering polio drops to a child.

Chandigarh: Polio drops were administered to more than 80,000 children in the city on Sunday. About 463 stationary booths and 66 mobile teams were also put up by the Chandigarh Administration Health Department.
