NEW DELHI A 14-month-old has become the second victim to be detected with polio in the city this year. However, the reason of the infection is yet to be known.

A polio scare was triggered in Dumka after 181 children with deformed limbs arrived in the district from Soraiyahat block last night.

The Pakistan government and the World Bank (WB) signed two agreements for polio eradication on Saturday.

The WB initially provided the total amount under both the agreements amounting to $67.84 million to the Health Ministry as a credit in 2007. However, under a buy-down arrangement the WB converted the credit into grant with the support of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

CHENNAI: In the latest push towards the eradication of polio in the face of a new round of incidence in parts of the world including in certain States of India, community leaders have been urged to convince their followers of the safety and importance of polio vaccination.

He has called for urgent measures to root out this grave public health menace.
