The gram panchayat of Dulat village in this district has been awarded a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh for showing the best results in correcting the skewed gender ratio (34 girls against 16 boys) in 2009.

Deputy Commissioner Vijay Singh Dahiya handed over the cheque to village sarpanch Nirmal Singh today.

With a view to creating awareness among farmers regarding harmful effects of the burning of paddy straw in fields and making them environment- friendly, the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has decided to launch an awareness campaign in the Rohtak and Jhajjar regions.

CHANDIGARH: Baliyana village in Rohtak district has become the first village in Haryana where cheques of annual royalty for acquired land were distributed on Thursday to farmers under the rehabilitation policy of the State Government.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Friday that the State Government had prepared a blueprint to eradicate unemployment. Redressing the grievances of people at Rohtak, he said large industrial units would be set up in all parts of the State and many such units had already been set up. This would solve the problem and ''hardly any family would be left unemployed'. He said the proposed Industrial Model Township in Rohtak, 70 km from Delhi, would house large industrial units.
