SAMBALPUR: Orissa Collieries Mazdoor Sangh (OCMS) affiliated to INTUC has threatened to stage dharna in front of the headquarters of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) on September 1 over 14-point charter of demands.

SAMBALPUR: When the all risk Comprehensive Crop Insurance Scheme (CCIS) was introduced in 1985 and subsequently changed to Rashtriya Krishi Bima Yojana (RKBY) with the objective to provide insurance cover and financial support to the farmers in the event of failure of any of the notified crops, it was welcomed by farmers across the nation.

While Sambalpur district received an average rainfall of 150 mm, Jujumura block recorded the highest rainfall of 300 mm. In Sambalpur town, Housing Board Colony, Cheruapada, Danipali, SRIT Colony at Budharaja, Bahalpada in Sakhipada, Pt. Laxmi Narayan Lane and Manikmunda have been inundated.

SAMBALPUR: Vedanta Aluminium Limited (VAL), Jharsuguda, has been issued with show-cause notice by the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) for violating various sections of water and air pollution Acts.

SAMBALPUR: Hirakud Dam recorded an increase of about three ft in the water level over the last 24 hours.

SAMBALPUR: Even as doubts are being raised over water shortage after power generation was stopped in the Hirakud dam reservoir (HDR), the decision to release a mere 50 cusecs of water from the HDR into the Bargarh main canal for irrigation of kharif crop has come under a cloud.
