A City-based engineer Prabhakar Wawge, has come up with a solar water heating system, which can be used in multistoried building without using terrace area. It can be used as a wall integrated solar water heating system and does not require any pumping mechanism for circulation. Wawge got the patent for his invention recently. He claims that in comparison with normal solar system his invention reduces the cost of solar water heating system by Rs 3000 to Rs 3500.

After a monster tornado devastated Greensburg, Kan., one year ago this Sunday, the city faced tragedy and the daunting task of rebuilding from scratch. It also got an opportunity, Mayor John Janssen says. This rural county seat 109 miles west of Wichita has made "green" its rebuilding mantra, declaring itself a national model for environmentally conscious living

Rabi Rashmi Abasan (meaning a solar housing complex), India's first solar housing complex has been conceieved by WBREDA (West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency) and is located at New Town Kolkata and spread over an area of 1.76 acres. Each house owner within the complex will produce his own power for domestic use and feed any surplus power into the local grid.

A hybrid plant combines wind, solar and hybrid power conditioning unit with a battery to supply electricity to remote areas.

The conventional grid-based electricity has not been able to reach many remote rural areas and small settlements.

The radiations from the sun can be converted into electrical energy using devices like solar cells.

Researchers have developed an eco-friendly inflatable solar panel called SolarStore for domestic use, which would help to save nearly 0.2 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. According to a report in ENN (Environmental News Network), the SolarStore harnesses the sun's natural energy to warm domestic water and can heat up to three full tanks of water per day at temperatures close to 80

Satellite data show that changes in the sun are contributing to global warming but to a smaller extent than human activity, a space scientist at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington told a group of petroleum geologists Wednesday. "The sun is playing a role that you can detect, but it's not the dominant role," Judith Lean told a crowded session at the 2008 convention of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists in San Antonio.

The Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA) is making great strides in the field of utilization of solar energy to replace traditional electricity-fueled water heating systems in the state. Nearly 5 megawatts (MW) of energy is produced using this non-conventional source of energy. In 250 villages that are not connected by grid electricity, solar panels are providing hot water. The practice is also growing in areas around Thane and not without reason.

An Ireland-based renewable energy firm has given Euro 62m (US$100m) in funding to a solar energy specialist. NTR has invested the money in the US-based firm Stirling Energy Systems (SES) after reaching an agreement that will give NTR a controlling interest. The funding will allow SES to begin work on two major solar farms in southern California and increase its production of its SunCatcher solar energy generators. The SunCatcher technology uses large mirrored dishes to direct sunlight onto an engine capable of turning the energy into electricity.
