The Central Government has issued a draft notification proposing amendments to the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016. This Draft notification was issued on 16th October, 2023. These amendments are aimed at strengthening the effective implementation of the rules for managing plastic waste and promoting environmental sustainability.

The matter is related to the municipal solid waste dumping site of Valsad nagarpalika, near Auranga river. Currently Valsad nagarpalika is dumping MSW at dumping site Sandhpore (near Railway Bridge at Auranga river). The nagarpalika has not developed scientific landfill site for the disposal of MSW.

Today the world faces unprecedented challenges in waste management while the state of the municipal waste management sector globally is a matter of concern.

The NGT, September 14 directed the Executive Officer, Municipal Council, Manali, Himachal Pradesh to file a fresh status report regarding the illegal dumping of solid waste by the solid waste processing plant in the gram panchayat area of Shallen, village Rangadi, post Kalath, tehsil Manali, district Kullu. Municipal Council was also directed to file action taken report against the service provider, if they are not performing as per norms.

This Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India for the year ended 31 March 2021 has been prepared for submission to the Governor of the State of Kerala under Article 151(2) of the Constitution of India for being placed in the State Legislature.
