UP power regulator issues notice to Lanco over Anpara project

The Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPSERC) has issued notice to Lanco Anpara Power Pvt Ltd on a petition challenging the change in capacity of the Anpara C thermal power project from 1,000 Mw to 1,200 Mw. The project, located in Sonbhadra district, is already behind schedule by eight months. Lanco Infratech, another Lanco Group company, was in the news in 2007 when the 4,000-Mw ultra-mega power project at Sasan in Madhya Pradesh was taken away from it for allegedly flouting bid conditions.

Is this a water supply pipe?

The Centre released some funds for the Swajal Dhara drinking water scheme in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh in April 2004. The money has remained in the bank and has earned an interest of Rs 4.8 lakh. Yet the scheme is still to take off. But for once, it is not official tardiness, only the tedious implementation process, that is to blame for the delay.

Endemic fluorosis in Jhiragadandi (Sonbhadra) and its management

In last few years, Sonebhadra district of Uttar Pradesh has been identified as endemic fluorosis affected region where a number of such cases have been reported in 18 villages. The study was undertaken to determine the severeness of the problem, for this a dental fluorosis survey of school students, monitoring of drinking water sources and awareness programme were conducted in the Jhiragadandi Naibasti village.
