Punjab was forced to undergo long power cuts for upto six hours after two units of the Ropar Thermal plant tripped today, leading to acute shortage of power. The state lost as much as 420 MW power on Friday due to the tripping of the two thermal power generation units at the Ropar power plant.

The JP Group has emerged as the lowest bidder for the Karchana power plant to be established in Allahabad district of Uttar Pradesh. The group quoted the lowest power production cost, Rs 2.970 per unit of power to be produced by the 2x660 megawatt plant.
