AGARTALA, Aug 2: The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has found another gas reservoir of nearly 726.6 MW capacity near Palatana combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) based power project in south Tripura last week.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today cleared the execution of the 100 MW Tripura Gas- based Power Project in the Central sector. North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) would implement the project.

New Delhi, June 19 The Centre has cleared the implementation of a 100 MW gas-based power project in Tripura.

The project would be set up by the State-owned North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (Neepco) at a cost of Rs 421 crore, according to a decision taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs here on Friday.

The efforts of ONGC, Tripura Asset to quadruple its gas production target to 6 MMSCMD by 2012 got a major boost with the conversion of 933 sq km Petroleum Exploration License (PEL) area to the oil giant.

This will facilitate the Asset to further intensify the exploration activities in the State, according to an official release.

Tripura Renewable Energy Agency (TREA) has adopted an ambitious plan for producing low-cost electricity. As part of the plan, one solar hybrid project has been installed on top of the Vigyan Bhavan recently. The project that was established at a cost of Rs 5 lakh is unique in nature as it uses both wind and sunlight to generate power. The project has been producing two-kilo watt power each day by using wind as well as Sun, said Subhash Chowdhury, Director of TREA here on Tuesday.
