A three member committee was directed by the NGT to probe the allegations of encroachment by stone crusher units on the river bed of Ganga flowing through Sahibganj in Jharkhand.

The committee after visiting the site will submit its report within a period of three weeks. In case violations are found, the committee shall recommend penalty as well as environmental compensation and also suggest remedial measures, if any.

Madhura Rajesh Tawade in her application to the NGT prayed for remedial action against damage to the environment in Mumbai city near coastal road at Wadala to Mahul, close to Chembur to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus freeway by adding C&D debris on the salt pan, making island out of it and encroaching the same, affecting the mangroves which are important for Mumbai city.

The matter related to protection of Laxmi Tal at Jhansi from unauthorized encroachments and pollution and preventing entry of untreated sewage and sullage was raised. The report filed by a committee stated that in the area which is registered as talab, two illegally constructed houses were found, which have now been demolished. In addition, there were 7 temples and a majar - which could not be demolished due to protest by the local people.

Objection to the report of the Gujarat Pollution Control Board by the applicant, Aditya Singh Chauhan on industries polluting Sabarmati river.

The report points out that there are 672 industries in the area who are members of common effluent treatment plant (CETP), Ahmedabad Hand Screen Printing Association (AHSPA), but the report deals with only 55 industries. The zero liquid discharge (ZLD) units in the area as given by Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) was 55 units only - whereas to the best of knowledge of the applicant total ZLD units in the area is more than 200.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of In re: news report appearing in Express News Service dated14.09.2023 titled“Ramakkallake in TN polluted & emits foul smell, residents demand rejuvenation”. The application was registered on the basis of a news item published in the New Indian Express, September 14, 2023 which stated that pollution level has arisen in the Ramakkal lake with a foul smell causing distress to the nearby residents.

Order of the Supreme Court in the matter of Islampur Municipal Council Vs Madhukar Shankar Sutar & Others dated 03/10/2023.

The court directed the Chief Officer of the Islampur Municipal Council to file an affidavit setting out the compliance, if any, made with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 and was also asked to state the preventive measures being taken to ensure that untreated sewage water is not discharged in Krishna river. The affidavit has to be filed within a period of one month and the next hearing of the case fixed for November 20, 2023.
