Thane: Contaminated water from four borewells in Bhiwandi has triggered a spate of gastroenteritis. The Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC) has sealed the borewells. Two were dug by BNMC and the other two by a local resident, Mamuchi.

AHMEDABAD: Hirawadi area in Thakkarbappanagar has been hit by jaundice this year. In just a fortnight, the area saw more than 350 jaundice cases.

Despite efforts to improve healthcare facilities in rural areas, communicable diseases like meningitis, malaria and diarrhoea continue to haunt the tribal hamlets of Tripura.

One person died and seven others were admitted following reports of a diarrhoea outbreak because of suspected water contamination in Ward 20 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) over the past few days. Civic officials are yet to determine the cause of diarrhoea.

Ahmedabad: Bureaucratic red tape resulted in 100 children suffering from typhoid and one succumbing to it. Outbreak of typhoid was caused by contamination of water and lack of proper sanitation facilities at three villages in Bavla.

Ahmedabad: It's a ticking time bomb. After water contamination triggered a typhoid outbreak in three villages of Bavla taluka of Ahmedabad district, it could well be the turn of 65 more in Sanand taluka alone.

Doctors and Public Health Bodies in the city are preparing themselves for summer outbreaks and have suggested a series of precautions.

A Joint Monitoring Committee comprising health officers of the BBMP, executive engineers from the BWSSB and officials from the BMP has been set up to deal with epidemics.

PARADIP: More than 25 persons of coastal villages of Balikuda block have been affected by diarrhoea following consumption of contaminated water.

Sources said 20 to 25 coastal villages under Balikuda and Ersama blocks are reeling under acute water crisis as a result of which, people are forced to consume contaminated water of canals and ponds.

At least 200 people, most of them women and children, have been affected. Residents have attributed the disease to water contamination, as there are no proper drinking water facilities Water from the lake, which is sometimes brackish, is pumped into a tank, from where it is made available to the residents through taps on the ground
