Mohali, November 03 : Leak in water-supply pipeline caused the epidemic, says Health Department, as Water Supply and Sanitation department denies claim

The first and second editions of the Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality were used by developing and developed countries worldwide as the basis for regulation and standard setting to ensure the safety of drinking-water. They recognized the priority that should be given to ensuring microbial safety and provided guideline values for a large number of chemical hazards.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) in its latest report has stated that there was a possible risk of water-borne disease spreading in the areas affected by the recent floods.
The Epidemiologists confirmed the possibility of such diseases spreading but stated that no cases have been reported yet.

Hyderabad, Oct. 21: The practice of laying water pipelines close to sewer lines has led to the spread of water-borne diseases during monsoon. While digging roads for laying cable lines, the rain water gushes in and seeps into the water pipelines after getting mixed with the raw sewerage and run off from the sewer lines. Leakage of sewer lines is quite common in Hyderabad.

MADURAI: The State government has allotted an additional Rs.3.16 crore for exclusively dealing with seasonal diseases in the wake of incessant rains for past few days. The amount is being disbursed to health authorities in districts to step up mosquito control activities.

Inadequate access to safe water and sanitation leads millions of our people to various health problems. Water and vector born diseases like diarrhoea, dysentery, typhoid, worm infestation and polio, malaria, hepatitis A and E are too common in the country. These diseases are specially very dangerous for the children under five.

ASANSOL, Oct. 12: Two days after reports of at least 10 diarrhoea-related deaths in the Kulti municipality area became public, a joint team of experts, including paramedics, today began delivering medical assistance to residents. The team comprises five experts each from the Eastern Coalfields Limited and district health services.

Durgapur, Oct. 12: At least 10 people, including five children, have died of diarrhoea at Kulti near Asansol over the past week. Over 2,500 have been afflicted with the disease.

Nearly 300 patients have been admitted to the Asansol Subdivisional Hospital and the two hospitals of Eastern Coalfields Ltd and nursing homes in Asansol and Kulti, about 260km from Calcutta.
