Tiger count at Kishenpur might be up from the last census conducted in 2011.

Analysis of camera trappings suggest an increase in the number of tigers in 204 sq km of the sanctuary that forms dudhwa's core zone. Sensor-enabled cameras were installed at 65 locations of the sanctuary to click tigers.

The centre has released the first ever financial sanction to Amangarh tiger reserve. The sanction of Rs 24 lakh will be utilized for the management of the reserve.

Lucknow: On Thursday, another blackbuck died at Lucknow zoo taking the toll to 14. Though zoo has started putting control measures in place, the disturbing toll over the last few years has made experts feel the need for a detailed study on the cause of death.

The annual plantation drive would add more than four crore trees in Uttar Pradesh. The drive would be different this year as trees would be planted on a bigger area to make them more visible.

90 Trees Cut Near Butler Palace

Lucknow: A Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court on Thursday restrained the state authorities from felling trees in the city for widening of roads. The court also asked if the authorities have any plan to plant new trees at alternative places to compensate for the trees cut down. Justice Uma Nath Singh and Justice VK Dixit passed the order on a PIL against cutting of trees in the Butler Palace area and Tilak Marg on Dalibagh, but it is likely to come as a deterrent in other instances of tree felling as well. Wideninf of NH24, for instance, has already taken a toll on some 8,200 trees.

Lucknow: The illegal felling of trees is fast depriving Uttar Pradesh of its precious forest wealth. In 2012-13, trees worth Rs 1.4 crore have been illegally chopped off on the forest land. This is only the "reported" loss of timber and does not include unaccounted cases. On January 18, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav suspended 13 employees of forest department, including officers, for illegal felling of trees in Bahraich division.

Between March and December 2012, at least 40 forest employees were suspended for failing to check illegal cutting of trees. The government has been on a suspension overdrive against forest employees and the recent suspensions have added to the figures. The officers admit that it's for the first time that the lower-rung staff has faced the heat for timber theft in the state.

Lucknow: At least five rhinos have gone missing from the Dudhwa national park. Though the forest department officers are tightlipped about the incident, wildlife enthusiasts have voiced concern over their disappearance.

“Frantic search is on for the rhinos, missing for the past four days. The area has been cordoned off,” said a Dudhwa official. When TOI tried to contact Dudhwa director Shailesh Prasad, he hung up. His deputy, too, could not be reached for a comment on the development all through the day.
