The quality of water is of immense importance because poor quality ground water is not only a limiting factor in crop production but also its constant and indiscriminate use causes secondary salinization. Therefore, a qualitative water quality survey was carried out to diagnose the salinity for sodicity hazards in ground waters in relation to their suitability for irrigation in Faridkot district (Punjab) having two blocks namely Faridkot and Kotkapura.

A study was conducted to estimate the rate of solid and dissolved mass denudation from six prominent landuse systems of Bhetagad micro watershed, Gomti basin of Indian Central Himalaya. An investigation was also conducted to assess the seasonal variation in water quality parameters influenced by rainwater in the four sub-catchments of Gomti basin.

Lake Oussudu, which is the largest wetland in the Union Territory of Pondicherry, is one of the most important bird sanctuaries in India. Apart from being an important water resource and a heritage site, Oussudu watershed also caters to the other needs of the people living around the lake; notably fishing, grazing of the domestic livestock and harvesting of reeds.

A lot of wash load comes to the streams during the rainy season due to the erosion of soil from the catchment and known to flow practically without settling on the streambed. The presence of wash load is known to affect the resistance to the flow. The effect of its presence on transport of bed material load is not well known. The present paper is devoted to a review of the studies regarding concept of wash load, changes in resistance to flow due to the presence of wash load, the effect of presence of fines in suspension on the transport of bed-material.

Analysis of water balance for Upper Kolab catchment was done according to Thornthwaite book keeping technique for six stations located within the catchment and for the entire catchment for the normal climatic year. On annual basis the catchment has a water need, rainfall, actual evapotranspiration, water surplus and water deficit of 1703.7 mm, 1479.82 mm, 1003.13 mm, 476.69 mm and 700.56 mm respectively. There is a water surplus from July to October and water deficit from November to May. The surplus months of June and part of July contribute to recharge the soil moisture deficit.

The intensive agricultural production by the over use of agro-chemicals in the state of Punjab has resulted in higher NO3-N concentration in ground water, which leads to ground water pollution. The LEACHM model developed by Wagenet & Hutson is used to predict nitrogen transport in multi layered soil profile under irrigated rice crop in northern India.

Measurement of unsaturated hydraulic conductivity in vadose zone is a very difficult task. It is estimated using mathematical or empirical relations. The unsaturated hydraulilc conductivity with respect to water content or suction is estimated using standard empirical relations. These empirical relations use saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) as one of the parameters.

Feasibility of harvesting roof top water in an engineering college campus is studied using a stochastically generated daily rainfall series. It has been shown that even though sufficient amount of water is available, possibility of harvesting rainwater is limited because of limitations in the storage that can be provided.
