It is the responsibility of the State Governments/ concerned local bodies to set up proper facilities for collection, transportation and treatment of sewage being generated and ensure that untreated sewage does not fall into the rivers thereby polluting them.

Question raised in Rajya Sabha on Forests Villages, 02/05/2016. The number of Forest Villages, total population in the forest villages and ST population in the Forest Villages State/UT wise is placed at Annex I. This Ministry has issued guidelines on conversion of forest villages, old habitations, unsurveyed villages etc. into revenue villages vide letter No.23011/33/2010-FRA dated 08.11.2013. Status of conversion of Forest Villages to Revenue Villages based on the information received from the State Governments is placed at Annex II.

Due to deficit monsoon during the year 2015-16, Governments of Karnataka (both for Kharif and Rabi), Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telengana, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Rajasthan submitted Memoranda seeking financial assistance from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) after declaring drought in several parts of those States. Question raised in Rajya Sabha on Discharge of Harmful Waste in River Ganga, 02/05/2016 . Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has identified 764 industrial units discharging into River Ganga. The five key industrial sectors (Pulp & Paper, Distillery, Sugar, Textile and Tannery) contribute to about 90% of organic pollution load. Sector and State-wise details of the industries is given at Annexure-I.

The analysis of AAQ data of Delhi for the period 2000 to 2015 reveals that SO2 levels are within National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) of 50 µg/m3 (annual standard) and shows decreasing trend during 2000 to 2015.
