BENGALURU: With an estimated seven lakh tons of fuelwood required for curing tobacco every year in Karnataka, more than 300 hectares of forest land are lost annually.
Pulmonologists blame atmospheric pollution due to vehicular emission and petrochemical wastes for the rise in bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis in the city.
The project aims to cater to the requirements of over 7.55 million people in drought-prone Kolar, Chickballapur, Ramanagaram, Tumakuru, Bengaluru Rural and Hassan districts.
