Cotton-wheat is a long established crop production system of north-western plains of India and Pakistan, and it occupies an important place in the agricultural economy of both these countries. While cotton is a cash crop, wheat provides the necessary food security. Accordingly, this crop rotation has brought rich dividends to the farmers.

Traditional agroforestry systems prevalent in Lahaul area was agri-silvicultural system. Generally five agroforestry systems were identified i.e. agri-horticultural, agri-silvicultural, agri-silvi-pastoral, pastoral-silviculture and pastoral-horticulture. The Tea Research Association has maintained that the reported loss of tea crop this year cannot be attributed to the infestation by Helopeltis (commonly referred to as the tea mosquito bug) alone. Unfavourable weather conditions have played a part, too, in the production loss, said TRA director Dr Mridul Hazarika at a press conference held at the Cinnamara-based Tocklai Experimental Station here on Wednesday.
