JAIPUR: The work on the Ghat ki Guni tunnel project has hit another roadblock, this time, in the form of protests by residents on acquisition of land for widening of the road from Jawahar Nagar end to the tunnel.

The project on the Jaipur-Agra national highway has already missed its June deadline. Now, officials fear the protests could further push the August 15 deadline. Residents along with public representatives launched a strong protest on Sunday against the 200-feet road widening plan that would require the authorities to acquire land.

JAIPUR: The state cabinet on Wednesday cleared the proposal for allotting solid waste management contracts to private firms in eight cities.

JAIPUR: Rajasthan will be the first state in the country where global positioning system (GPS) would be installed in around 1,000 buses of the state-owned Rajasthan State Roadways Corporation (RSRTC). The installation process would begin from Tuesday onwards. This system will not only enable the authorities to keep a track on the long-distance buses but will also facilitate them to put a check on things like theft of diesel which has been a big concern since it was rampant with the RSRTC buses.

Urban planners attached to an advocacy group on Panchayati Raj here on Monday called upon the Rajasthan Government to pay greater attention to the Centre's flagship scheme, Rajiv Awas Yojana, for providing affordable housing to slum dwellers in the cities. The focus of the Yojana is on according property rights to people living in slums.

Jaipur: The state health ministry is closely monitoring the recent cases of swine flu and has already started collecting details about the reports on a daily basis.

So far, in March, 28 cases of swine flu have been reported in the state and out of them five have died of H1N1 influenza. Since the cases of swine flu were reported in Jaipur after a gap of around six months, it has caught the department off guard

JAISALMER: Viewing the security scenario and the frequent threats, an integrated security system is being put in place covering 202 railway stations across the country. This includes Jaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur and Bikaner.

In addition to this, three trains-Thar Express, Palace on Wheels and Atari Express will be a part of the system, informed Railway Protection Force director General P K Mehta during his visit to Jaisalmer on Tuesday.

Demand for proper security and cleanliness in trains

JAIPUR: City residents facing the shortage of drinking water have a good news as rains over the past couple of days increased the level of water in Bisalpur dam, which is a key source of drinking water.

The water level was recorded at 306.45 metre on Monday. Around two days ago, the water level was recorded at 305.58 metre.

Final touches being given in to draft document in Rajasthan
A draft document on integrated solid waste management through door-to-door garbage collection, transport, processing and cleaning in ten major towns of Rajasthan will shortly be submitted for approval to the State Government.

The State Urban Development Department is presently giving final touches to the document.
