The District Planning Committee meet has resolved to construct office buildings with conference halls for Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in all Gram Panchayats (GP) and Block Panchayats (BP).

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme has adversely affected harvesting of Rabi crop in the Gangetic belt as labourers are busy digging ponds, leaving farmers high and dry.

In some places the labourers have even jacked up their rates, saying they will work in fields only if they get more than Rs 100 per day as wage.

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government utilised 96 per cent of funds under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in 2009-10, creating 551.59 lakh mandays.

MUMBAI: State rural development minister Jayant Patil stunned participants at a national seminar on the agrarian crisis here this week when he admitted that Maharashtra was lagging behind in the implementation of the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) because its "bureaucracy found the transparency clauses in it too much of a bother".
