Itanagar: The National Mission on Bamboo Application (NMBA) has assured Arunachal Pradesh to provide fund for establishment of bamboo-based small scale industry in the State.

The assurance was given by NMBA Director in-charge and Mission Co-ordinator Ajay Kumar to newly appointed vice-chairman of Bamboo Development Board of Arunachal Pradesh, Yora Tagung in New Delhi on Tuesday, official sources informed here today.

MUMBAI: Union minister Jairam Ramesh's order notwithstanding, the state forest department is unwilling to transfer the rights over harvesting bamboos to forest dwellers. The department currently holds the right to harvest bamboo in the state.

Bamboos dying in large numbers on the hills of Jarey gewog in Lhuentse worry villagers, who depend on the plant for roofing and other domestic purposes. About 150 houses in the gewog with 221 households have bamboo roofing, while others use bamboo to roof animal sheds and make products for domestic use.
