The -State forest department has launched a unique policy aiming at income generation of the unemployed people as well as the youth of the state by using various species of local bamboo available in the region.

Refuting all allegations that land in a reserved forest in Mon district has been grabbed, the Nagaland Government clarified that the land would be used for bamboo plantation under Nagaland Bamboo Mission by involving poor farmers.

Cane and bamboo industry in the North East is expected to get further impetus with a Cane and Bamboo Technology Park (CBTP) that is coming up at Byrnihat under the aegis of the North Eastern Council (NEC).

Tirupur: To augment income-generation activities in rural areas, the Department of Horticulture plans to introduce bamboo cultivation in Tirupur block during the current financial year under the Centre-sponsored National Bamboo Mission.

Northeast India, being situated in the transition zone of Indian, Indo-Malayan and Indo-Chinese biogeographic regions, harbour a rich biological diversity, which is a well known fact. This is also a transition zone between the low-lying Indian peninsula and highlands of Himalayan mountain which also makes it an abode of diverse flora and fauna.
