Coimbatore, Aug. 30 The Hosur-based Growmore Biotech has developed a bamboo variety called Beema that is rich in biomass yields.

The high-yielding clone is thorn-less, thick-walled, non-flowering and responsive to field management practice.

Forests provide a number of goods and services to the people. The dependence is very high especially amongst the tribals who live close to nature and collect food, fuelwood, timber, bamboos, medicinal plants and other non-wood products from the forests.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Bodoland Bamboo Development Board (BBDB), Kokrajhar, and International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR), Beijing, recently at the conference hall of BTC Secretariat here for establishment of a bamboo shoot processing centre at Central Institute of Technology (CIT), Kokrajhar.

The operational guidelines for "scheme on intensification of forest management". This scheme addresses both the general problems of forest protection and the area specific requirements for management intervention. It is aimed at modernizing the forestry sector and improving the working conditions at the cutting edge level.
