World Food Programme, has benefited hundreds of villagers in the tribal-dominated Banswara, Dungarpur and Pratapgarh districts in southern Rajasthan by way of distribution of 958 metric tonnes of food grain through service delivery centres.

The Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangthan (MKSS), led by social worker Aruna Roy, is preparing itself to undertake a social audit of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in Ajmer district, the Sarpanch Sangh has decided to oppose the entry of MKSS members in villages.

The Southern part of Banswara district of Rajasthan state is mostly dominated by tribal populations. The socio-economic conditions of the tribals are pathetic by all standards. Even though the average rainfall is very good, the region is always under influence of drought. This mainly due to the lack of management, inadequate knowledge and inadvertence of water conservation pratices.

Udaipur, Banswara and Dungarpur districts of southern Rajasthan have dominance of tribal population. In these districts besides other water resources, hand pumps are catering the need for drinking water. The present study was undertaken to assess the level of chemical and bacteriological status for comparing the water quality with the prevailing standards.
