AJMER: The forest department has on its hands the task of finding the number of remaining Great Indian Bustard (GIB), the state bird, to chalk out a conservation plan for them.

Jaipur: Malnutrition among children in Rajasthan has taken ominous proportions. The Hungama (Hunger and Malnutrition) survey carried out recently by Naandi Foundation indicates that the situation in many districts has worsened when compared to what it was about a decade back.

The Hungama Survey, released on Tuesday by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, mentions 10 districts in Rajasthan. These districts are among a sample size of 112 districts in the country.

Jaipur: Three children belonging to the Sahariya tribe had died of malnutrition in Kishanganj block of Baran district in the past one month.

The tigress to be relocated to the Sariska tiger reserve has been identified. The Sultanpur tigress in Kota will be first of the three tigresses to be relocated. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has already granted permission to the state for this. 

 

JAIPUR: Reported sighting of two rare species of vultures in large numbers in Baran district on Tuesday cheered environmentalists and bird watchers.

"These two rare species -- white rumped and long billed were sighted in large numbers on the banks of Villasi river in Kishangang and Kraye river in Shabad, respectively," SDM Muktanand Agrawal said here on Tuesday.

Malaria cases continue to rise in the western districts of the state. The number of cases recorded in three western districts was around 11,000 till last week, half of the total cases of 22,000 reported so far in the state.
"This year the number of cases reported in the state have increased due to heavy rain in the western districts.

The Renewable Energy for Rural Livelihoods (RERL) project tries to demonstrate the use of renewable sources of energy in reducing poverty through improved quality of life and increased livelihood opportunities in remote, non-electrified villages of India that are not likely to get electricity from the grid.
