Market has halved over two years as consumers opt for cheaper, fuel-driven cars

India’s move to popularise electric vehicles has skidded on policy flip-flop and consumer propensity to opt for the cheaper fossil fuel-driven variants. The size of the domestic market for electric vehicles, primarily two-wheelers, has more than halved over the past two years, forcing about half a dozen manufacturers like BSA Motors, Ultra Motors, Luminous and Eco Motors to shut shop.

A China-based solar-powered scooter and car maker is eyeing the Indian market by showcasing its products at an auto exhibition here this week, a company official said Tuesday.

It is not just cars and bikes that auto enthusiasts will witness at the Auto Expo to be held next month. The twelfth edition of the expo is planned to be of much bigger scale, in terms of the size of the venue as well as launches.

The event will see launches of over 70 vehicles - the highest ever - 15 of them being global launches. In addition, there will be sidelights in line with the global trend.

मुख्य न्यायाधीश वीएन रामन और न्यायमूर्ति प्रदीप नंदराज योग ने कहा कि यह काफी गंभीर मामला है कि सरकार का तर्क है कि रिक्शा को एमसीडी लाइसेंस देती है और वहीं उन पर नियंत्रण के लिए जिम्मेदार है। वहीं निगम ने कहा कि संचालन का काम सरकार का है। अदालत ने कहा, लोगों का जीवन खतरे में पड़ रहा है और दोनों ही एक दूसरे पर जिम्मेदारी डाल रहे हैं।
