Gurgaon: Gurgaon may have to follow in the footsteps of parched Delhi and depend on other states for water. A report by Ground Water Cell says that water level has gone down by 7.6 meters in the city and has been depleting at an average rate of 2 meter per year since the past three years.

With the realisation that climate change was impacting resources of water, the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA), under the Ministry of Water Resources, has urged the States to make it mandatory for institutions to adopt rooftop rain water harvesting and promote artificially recharged ground water. The principle is to catch every drop where it falls.

Groundwater is a primary source of fresh water in many parts of the world. Indirect evidence suggests that this is the case in northwest India, but there has been no regional assessment of the rate of groundwater depletion.

TAMLUK, March 10: In a development that could yet grow to more alarming proportions, indiscriminate pumping of water by various means has taken a toll on the groundwater level in the coastal areas of Midnapore East district.

New Delhi: The Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) has said the only way to augment the depleting groundwater table in the city is through rooftop rainwater harvesting.

The water table in the city has shown an improvement of 1.08 meters due to good rains last year, which may bring some relief to the residents here.
