KOCHI: The distribution of compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will fetch the board profit through the sale of the carbon credits earned from the incandescent bulbs collected while distributing the CFLs.

POWER minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that about 74,000 mw of new generation capacity could be added during the Eleventh Plan period, betraying a lack of clarity in the government on this issue.

The minister had earlier scaled down the capacity addition target to 62,000 mw from 78,577 mw due to delays in starting some projects.

Mumbai: ITC Hotels has set a precedence by possibly becoming the first hospitality chain in the world to have earned carbon credits. Its luxury property, ITC Sonar in Kolkata, which switched to energy efficient CFL bulbs as part of its energy saving drive, has been issued 1,996 carbon credits per annum for a period of 10 years.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Electricity Minister A K Balan has said that the pilot distribution of 1.5 crore Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) will begin at the Thirumala, Mangalapuram, Attingal, Poovar, Pallam, Changanassery, Kuruppumthara and Kottarakkara sections of the KSEB on March 16.

Mamta Banerjee tried to colour the railways green in her budget on Wednesday announcing that the biggest employer in the country would distribute 2.6 million energy efficient CFL bulbs to its housing colonies and officials.
