The State government, on Friday, approved setting up of a unit to recycle all types of lamps including CFL and tube lights on the outskirts of Bangalore.
According to the Department of Industries and Commerce, for the first time such a unit is coming up in the country. e-parisara, an eco-friendly recycling unit located in Dobbespet, is executing the project.
As operational experience in designing and implementing large-scale, energy-efficient lighting programs using CFLs is being gained through projects sponsored by the World Bank and others in various countries, ESMAP of the World Bank initiated an activity in 2008 to help practitioners benefit from these experiences.
A material flow analysis, carried out with the use of data available in New Jersey, has been instructive in placing mercury aspects of CFLs in perspective with other uses and releases mercury.
