An application was filed before the NGT challenging the Environmental Clearance (EC) dated February 20, 2018 granted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) to the South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. for the expansion of Dipka Open Cast Coal Mines from 31 to 35 MTPA in Chhattisgarh.

The order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Shivpal Bhagat & Others Vs Union of India & Others dated 28/07/2020. The issue for consideration is the remedial action against pollution caused by the thermal power plants and the coal washeries in Tamnar and Gharghoda blocks of Raigarh District in Chhattisgarh, including M/s Jindal Power Limited, M/s Jindal Power and Steel Limited, M/s TRN Energy Private Limited, M/s Mahavir Energy & Coal Benefaction Limited, M/s. Hindalco Industries Limited and M/s. Monet Energy Limited, SECL.

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd Vs Rashmi Singh & Others dated 21/07/2020.

This appeal arises from a judgment of the National Green Tribunal dated 27 February 2020 on Sipat Super Thermal Power Station located at Sipat in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh.

The NGT had issued two directions for compliance by the National Thermal Power Corporation:

NTPC 3x660 MW (stage-I) Sipat Super Thermal Power Project in Village Sipat, Tehsil Masturi at district Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh report in compliance of National Green Tribunal order of February 27, 2020 in the matter of Rashmi Singh Vs NTPC Ltd. & Others.

The applicant had filed an affidavit before NGT in reference to the status report submitted by the Regional MoEF&CC Nagpur dated June 20, 2019 and alleged that there was non-compliance of the EC conditions by the thermal power plant.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Sudhir Versus State of Chhattisgarh dated 14/05/2020. The matter related to pollution being caused by M/s Metallic Alloys, Plot No. 29, Industrial Growth Centre, Sitara, Phase-III, Raipur, Chhattisgarh by using coke in the course of operation of furnace.

Action taken report filed by the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board in OA No. 772/2019 in the matter of Madan Sen Vs State of Chhattisgarh. The report was in compliance to the National Green Tribunal order of January 22, 2020 regarding illegal construction of slaughter house in residential area in Radhika Nagar, district Durg.

As reported by the States, all inhabited census villages in the country stand electrified as on 28.04.2018. Further, all the States reported electrification of all households, on Saubhagya portal, as on 31.03.2019, except few households in LWE affected Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. Subsequently, seven States reported 19,09,679 households which were un-willing earlier but later willing to get electricity connection.

This compilation of case studies from the central eastern tribal states of Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand is an attempt to bring together practices and experiences of forest dependent communities of managing and governing their resources.

A 32 page preliminary investigation report into the environmental carrying capacity for polluting projects and allied issues in Tamnar and Gharghoda blocks of Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh made public on Februry 26, 2020 on the National Green Tribunal (NGT) website. The report was in response to the NGT order of July 22, 2019.

The preparation of the State Action Plan for 2019-20 is aimed at achieving the desired outcomes under the key focus areas. The Empowered Committee (EC) has observed that the implementation of Rural Development Programmes had been outstanding in various States/UTs.
