HC seeks report on illegal sand mining in coastal areas

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Thursday sought a report on illegal sand mining operations in coastal districts of Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and neighbouring Navi Mumbai area.

A bunch of PILs, including the one filed by city-based NGO Janhit Manch, has alleged that illegal sand mining is being carried out in several areas of Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Navi Mumbai.

Helipads to come up in coastal regions

New Delhi (PTI): Government has given the green signal for construction and operation of helipads in coastal regions as well rooftops of high rise buildings near coasts with an aim to carry out relief and rescue operations during natural calamities.

However, keeping in view the environment sensitive nature of the coastal region, no commercial activities will be allowed.
