A new comprehensive insurance scheme is being prepared for farmers to ensure guaranteed damage cover, Agriculture Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil said here on Friday.

Patil was speaking after inaugurating Agrovision 2011, a farm expo organised by BJP president Nitin Gadkari.

The farmers in the state, who had lost their crops to the recent rain and hailstorm, may not get any compensation from the pre-sent weather-based insurance scheme in the state as hailstorm is not covered under the policy.
