The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has accused civic authorities of allowing industries to operate in residential areas of the national capital without mandatory clearances.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Legal Aid, National Green Tribunal Bar Association Vs. NCT of Delhi & Others dated 30/11/2017 regarding state of groundwater in Delhi. The CEO, Delhi Jal Board, Managing Director, DSIIDC and the concerned Secretary of NCT Delhi shall hold a meeting and inform the Tribunal as to clear stand of these authorities collectively with regard to extraction of groundwater in highly exploited areas with reference to Notification dated 10th July, 2010 and regulations thereof and the alternatives that have to be provided.

A bench, headed by NGT chairperson Swatanter Kumar, said, “Any institution which does not comply, has to pay an environmental compensation of Rs. 5 lakh."

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Mahesh Chandra Saxena Vs. The Ministry of Urban Development & Others dated 16/11/2017 regarding installation of rainwater harvesting systems in all the schools and colleges (private or government) in NCT Delhi. NGT directs all the schools and colleges to install rainwater harvesting systems, if not already installed, within a period of two months from today at their own cost. Any institution which does not comply with these directions shall be liable to pay a environmental compensation of Rs.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Rear Admiral AP Revi IN (Retd.) Vs. Delhi Jal Board & Others dated 26/10/2017 regarding use of fresh water for gardening purpose in Vasant Kunj area of Delhi. NGT passes direction that DDA/MCD shall ensure that DJB shall supply treated sewage water for gardening at the fixed rate which will be the primary responsibility of the public authority. The residents, DDA/MCD and DJB are prohibited to use fresh water for gardening purpose.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of News Item Published in Hindustan Times “And Quiet Flows the Maily Yamuna” Vs. Central Pollution Control Board & Others dated 08/08/2017 regarding prevention, control and rejuvenation of river Ganga. NGT directs the stakeholders to file their status reports and the action plan in relation to prevention, control and rejuvenation of river Ganga. If the report is not filed, each State would be liable to pay cost of Rs. 50,000/- each and also their Member Secretaries will be present before the Tribunal.

NGT has directed the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to inspect the rain water harvesting systems (RWHS) being installed in private and government schools in Delhi.
