Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of M.C. Mehta vs Union Of India & Others on 29 April, 1999 regarding rising vehicular pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR). Bhure Lal Committee in its Report submitted to Supreme Court on April 1, 1999 has indicated that more than 90% of Nitrogen Oxide (Nox) and respirable particulate matter (RSPN) from vehicles exhaust over Delhi is due to diesel emissions which is a serious health hazard.

Considering the suggestions made by Bhure Lal Committee Supreme Court directs that:

People living in polluted and already unhealthy cities like Delhi must remember that this diesel boom will only make breathing more difficult

no more sleepiness: Modafinil, a drug that keeps people with debilitating sleepiness awake and attentive, has been approved by the US Food and Administrative Department (FDA). The drug will be

With cheap and dirty diesel around the new CM cannot clean up Delhi's air

To understand the problem posed by diesel, it is necessary to understand the new information that has emerged over the last decade about its ill-effects. The first big finding come with air pollution experts discovering that diesel exhaust consists of 10-100 times more particles than petrol. More than that, experts soon began to realise that it is not the total quantity of particles that matters so much for public health as the size of the particles in vehicular exhaust. This monograph busted the myth that diesel is the fuel of the future and shows how harmful it is for the health.

The registration of non commercial diesel vehicles may soon be banned in Delhi

The Budget has provided the automobile industry an incentive to destory urban air quality

Yashwant Sinha s budget threatens to destroy the quality of urban air and endanger the lives of millions in Indian cities

Industry wants to maximise its profits. The cost to our health does not figure in their balance sheets

It is dangerous to breathe in most Indian cities, and even though the government accepts this, precious little is being done about it.
