Howrah is set to face another dry summer with the municipal authorities not drawing up a plan to solve problems in the supply of surface water.

For several years, taps have been running dry in Howrah in summer forcing residents to queue up for hours for a bucket of water.

According to engineers of the Howrah Municipal Corporation (HMC), the root of the problem lies in the pipe network.

Taking part in a seminar on "water use efficiency and water quality issues in Andhra Pradesh" organised by Central Ground Water Board here, the experts said water in the country was overexploited and the situation would turn grim by 2050.

UNITED NATIONS - The world needs to act urgently to avoid a global water crisis due to increased population, rising living standards, dietary changes and more biofuels production, the United Nations warned on Thursday.

The Chittagong Water and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) has taken initiative to beat the persistent water crisis in the port city, reviving a foreign-financed project that have been shelved for the last eight years.
