Residents living on Tajmahal Road at Mohammadpur in Dhaka have been suffering for the past four days due to lack of supply of drinking water by Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, sufferers said.
Fifty families of 50 apartments between the holding 10/1 and 10/15 in the area were the worst sufferers as many of the families could not even take their baths for the past four days due to lack of water supply.
Zakeria Shirazi, an elderly inhabitant at 10/7 Tajmahal Road said,

The massive power breakdown that plunged the city into darkness on Monday night also wreaked havoc on the city's major water pumping stations, forcing the teeming millions to suffer a shortage of around 160 million gallons of water.

Pune, July 24 32 tankers now serving 60,000 hit by drought-like situation; 25 more to be pressed into service in a week

With most parts of eastern Pune facing a drought-like situation, Pune district collector Chandrakant Dalvi has sought Rs 3 crore from the state government to address water scarcity issues. With an affected population of nearly 60,000 in the district, at present 32 tankers with a minimum capacity of 10,000 litres, are being sent to these areas.

AHMEDABAD: Sensing the vagaries of nature with rains getting scanty this year in Ahmedabad, officials of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) are chalking out a contingency plan to keep potable water woes away from the city.

In the past, Ahmedabad had witnessed water riots over the scarcity of drinking water. To start with, AMC is now constructing 100 percolation wells at AMC premises in six different municipal zones of the civic body within a year.

BHUBANESWAR: An Assembly Standing Committee has pulled up the Rural Development Department for delay in the implementation of drinking water project in Sakhigopal and Kanas region of Puri district as a result of which people of the area are living without potable water for years.

The panel members headed by chairman Narasingh Mishra visited the area recently to make an on the spot verification of the project implemented under the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) to supply pipe water to the people.

Power shortage in Andhra Pradesh has started affecting water supply in several cities and towns, including Hyderabad. The crisis has also led to an acute shortage of diesel as the demand has gone up due to increased use of generators.

Hyderabad is reeling under drinking water shortage with residential areas in the heart of the city and suburbs receiving water once in two days.

Around 32,000 have been settled within a land area of 80,000 acres, expending of Rs. 32,000 million by the government, to enhance rice production in the country under the Mahaweli development programme. The main water supply to the H zone is from Kalawewa reservoir which has a capacity to irrigate 27,000 acres of land. But later more and more land was brought under paddy cultivation in excess of the water available to feed the crops. Ultimate result was the shortage of water for nearly 53,000 acres of paddy cultivation.
