The Department of Economics and Statistics has begun work on the ninth Agricultural Census in the State.

The Supreme Court on Friday said it did not have any objection to conditional export of “ready, available” stock of banned pesticide endosulfan but refused to permit further production.

The Supreme Court on Friday asked an expert panel to find out the quantity of the pesticide endosulfan made in India ready for export against pending orders.

New Delhi The Supreme Court on Friday refused to relax the countrywide blanket ban on manufacture, sale and use of pesticide endosulfan. However, the apex court sought views from an expert committee on allowing export of the existing stock of endosulfan.

In view of the plea for permitting the export of endosulfan pesticide, the production and sale of which was banned by the Supreme Court after the reports on its serious effect on human health and environment, the top court on Friday sought clarification from the monitoring panel on certain aspects,

A Bill to prohibit the use of endosulfan pesticide in agricultural activities with a view to preventing its harmful effects on human beings, environment and to provide relief to persons affected by the harmful effects of endosulfan and for
matters connected therewith and incidental thereto.

The interim report of Joint Expert Committee on endosulfan submitted to the Supreme Court. Says that the ban on this pesticide should be limited to Kerala and Karnataka only, since none of the other states have reported adverse health effects.
