There will be a different light in every house in the New Year!
Under a central government scheme, every house will get compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) at a subsidized rate.
Power Minister Aleixo Sequeira said the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, New Delhi, has extended the Bachat Lamp Yojana Scheme to Goa.

Faced with concerns of the presence of mercury in the CFL bulbs, Delhi government is now making attempts for environment-friendly and energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs in the city. Environment activists have been raising concerns on the mode of disposal of compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) bulbs containing toxic mercury.

At a time when the Indian power sector is facing a funding shortage of over Rs 5 lakh crore, the government has said that saving of power through the energy-efficiency route could save investments of up to Rs 1.2 lakh crore in the sector.

After successful implementation of the compact fluorescent lamps scheme to save electricity, the Delhi Government is finding it difficult to find an agency for the disposal of the CFL lamps.

The Environment Department of Delhi Government has written to civic bodies-New Delhi Municipal Council and Municipal Corporation of Delhi to make arrangement for disposal of CFL lamps immediately.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday unveiled a 125-million-dollar programme to improve the country's inadequate electricity supply. Hillary also announced the first phase of the energy programme, which would help repair power facilities and promote energy efficiency. The projects, she said, have been designed in close collaboration and consultations with Pakistan government.
