The Karnataka government today banned issue of permits to transport iron ore and other minerals for exports, saying this is necessary to protect natural resources and check illegal mining and illegal export of minerals.

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Saturday said the State Government will impose a total ban on export of iron ore from Karnataka ports till the Lokayukta inquiry into illegal mining is completed.

The chief minister, here to attend the National Development Council (NDC) meeting, told newsmen that the State Government would issue an order in this regard in a couple of days.
