New Delhi: With aromatic basmati rice from India kept out of the supermarkets in Germany for the last few months, following reports of the presence of high levels of pesticide residue, exporters are urging the government to hold discussion with the European Union for bringing in uniformity in the norms concerning the minimum residue limit (MRL).

The Centre on Thursday rejected demand for ban on iron ore export, but promised that stringent steps will be initiated to curb illegal mining.

During the debate on illegal mining in the Rajya Sabha, the mining activities in Karnataka were brought to focus by several members, including TDP Rajya Sabha MP Mysura Reddy.
