The much-touted Affordable Housing Policy-2013, launched by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on August 6, is set to make housing out of aam aadmi’s reach across the state, especially in major cities.

Owning a flat may seem a far-fetched idea to the common man but Haryana’s ‘Affordable Policy 2013’ is set to change all that. With the Cabinet giving its nod to a policy for mass availability of dwelling units at rates that are easier on the common man’s pocket, a 500 sq ft flat will now cost Rs 20 lakh in the high potential towns of the state.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said Tuesday the state government is preparing a “Master Development Plan-2031” for Faridabad and assured industry all its present problems will be addressed by it.

Hooda, who was addressing industrialists at the 60th AGM of the Faridabad Industries Association, which is celebrating its diamond jubilee this year, at Surjakund near here on Monday, said his government had accomplished several projects in Faridabad during the past eight years and more were in the pipeline.

At a time when the property prices have skyrocketed in the urban areas, affordable housing may well be within the reach of the ‘aam aadmi’ in Haryana. In fact, with a view to attract the private builders to go in for affordable housing, the Hooda Government is set to launch its ambitious "Affordable Housing Policy-2013" to provide housing to the lower strata of society with an eye on the forthcoming parliamentary and the state Assembly elections next year.

Haryana is considering introducing a Mono rail between Faridabad and Gurgaon, which will further accelerate the pace of development in the area, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Sunday.

The modalities of the project will be worked out, Mr. Hooda told a rally here while announcing a slew of incentives for Faridabad, including construction of a road from Bata Chowk to B.K. Civil Hospital costing Rs.12 crore and rehabilitation of slum dwellers after a survey in February.

Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday said the state government has prepared a “Multi-Modal Mobility” plan to provide better transport facilities, like Metro and pod taxis, to the people.

As governments grapple with mounting quantities of waste and draft policies to tackle it, waste pickers who earn their livelihood from collection, segregation and disposal of waste still remain neglected, reveals a new study by a non-government organisation.

Accessing the welfare programmes and the prevalent rules for waste management in 14 major cities, Chintan, an environment action and research group, in its report ‘Failing the Grade’ has claimed that there was no city that has fully implemented the rules and policies for waste pickers.
