Despite getting a cold shoulder from the farmers who boycotted Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) camps for acquisition of land for the proposed ring road project in majority of the zones, the civic body has once again announced to start the camp from October 12.

NEW DELHI: The Central government took a small step backwards and the Opposition a similar step forward on Thursday on the sugarcane price issue, suggesting that an end could be found to the current agitation.

LUCKNOW: The rail and road traffic was badly hit in western UP on Monday when the farmers took to streets in protest against the low purchase prices of sugarcane fixed by the Centre and the state governments. The farmers blocked highways, damaged railway tracks, stopped trains and even set afire their crops in protest.

Western UP is witnessing a widespread farmers' resentment over non-remunerative prices for their sugarcane. The entire belt of western Uttar Pradesh is simmering with anger as the farmers are alleging that the prices of sugarcane have been fixed by the Government at the behest of the powerful sugarmill owners lobby.
