BHUBANESWAR: Members cutting across party lines today criticised the State Government for its lack of preparedness to tackle floods even though only a few days are left for the onset of monsoon.

The issue cropped up at the meeting of the State-level Calamity Committee presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here.

Bhopal: It is expected that onset of monsoon in the state will be in the second week of June. To meet the situation arising in the monsoon season, the revenue department has issued guidelines to all divisional commissioners and district collectors.

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Prabhjot Singh Mand on Tuesday issued directions to free all canals and seasonal rivulets passing through this district from encroachments and other obstructions, if any, in the flow of water on their beds.

The Haryana State Flood Control Board on Wednesday approved 66 schemes to be implemented by the Irrigation Department and 20 schemes by the Public Health Engineering Department.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda directed that the schemes be implemented district-wise. He also emphasised the need for focusing on construction of water bodies to harness water and recharge the water table.
