Aila grant for Bengal

The Centre has promised Rs 5,032 crore to repair Aila-damaged embankments and Rs 530 crore for flood control in East and West Midnapore, a team of Bengal MLAs said after meetings here today.

Institutional dysfunction and challenges in flood control: A case study of the Kosi flood 2008

The Kosi flood disaster of 2008 in Bihar and also in Nepal highlights two key issues relating to flood control. The first is the failure of the structural approach to flood control on the Kosi and the second is institutional dysfunction with respect to trans-boundary flood management.

Finland supports ICIMOD to establish regional flood information system in Himalayan region

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Government of Finland signed an agreement on 15th December on a collaborative project to establish a regional flood information system in the Hindu Kush-Himalayan region.

As far as water goes, climate change changes everything. Past experience of rainfall, snowfall, runoff and streamflow is no longer a reliable guide for the future. We'll all be affected, but especially small farmers and the poor and marginalized, who have the least ability to protect themselves against the depredations of droughts, floods and food shortages.

US to aid AP in flood control

Oct. 22: The United States government would assist Andhra Pradesh in flood prevention. This was revealed by the US ambassador, Mr Timothy J. Roemer, on Thursday.
The top US diplomat to India called on the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, at the Secretariat to discuss various bilateral issues and investment opportunities in education, energy and infrastructure besides flood control.
