The Northeastern States are amongst the top consumers of tobacco products in the country with Mizoram earning the dubious distinction of having the largest number of tobacco product consumers in India.

Sixty-one per cent of the population in Mizoram uses some form of tobacco products. In India, 57 per cent males and 10.9 per cent females use tobacco products.

The -State forest department has launched a unique policy aiming at income generation of the unemployed people as well as the youth of the state by using various species of local bamboo available in the region.

New Delhi: The government made it clear that it is not in favour of a blanket ban on using plastic bags while it is working on use of biodegradable plastic as colouring elements like dyes are a health hazard and thin bags and material can severely jam up sewage systems.

The Punjab State Forest Development Corporation will no more get the felling of trees done by engaging labour. Instead, the trees transferred to the corporation for felling will be sold by inviting tenders so as to generate more revenue and create employment opportunities for the youth.
